			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Findings published in a 2009 issue of the journal <em>Obesity</em> indicate that the Weight Wise Program (WWP), a lifestyle intervention  for low-income women who are considered overweight or obese, promoted an  average weight loss of nearly 15 pounds.</p>
<p>The NIH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  provided support for the 5-month randomized controlled trial, in which a  total of 143 women participated. The participants were uninsured and  underinsured women with low family income who were considered overweight  or obese at the beginning of the study. About 60 percent of  participants were non-Hispanic Whites, and 38 percent were non-Hispanic  Blacks.</p>
<p>Researchers randomly assigned 71 women to an untreated  control group that received two newsletters on unrelated health topics  (skin health and back pain) and 72 women to the 16-week WWP lifestyle  intervention. Conducted at a community health center and a nearby  church, WWP included weekly group education sessions adapted for  cultural appropriateness (materials written at a lower reading level and  including low-cost healthy meals that reflect local preferences).  Participants kept a daily diet and exercise record and provided personal  feedback reports summarizing their weight loss progress.</p>
<p>On average, participants in this short-term study lost 14.8  pounds, which is similar to weight loss results typically achieved by  interventions conducted with higher-income populations. Average  attendance was 10 out of 16 sessions, and participants who attended more  sessions lost more weight. Several factors promoted increased  attendance, including offering the sessions four times during the week,  providing incentives for attendance and participation, and holding the  meetings at a local church rather than a clinic.</p>
<p>In addition to weight loss, researchers found measured  improvements in blood pressure and good cholesterol, as well as  self-reported improvements in diet and physical activity.</p>

<p>2. Go crazy on vegetables. Vegetables are your best bet when it comes to losing pounds. Nature has a terrific spread when it comes to choosing vegetables. And the leafy green vegetables are your best bet. Try to include a salad in you diet always.</p>
<p>3. Control that sweet tooth. Remember that sweet things generally mean more calories. It is natural that we have cravings for sweet things especially chocolates and other confectionary. Go easy on theses things and each time you consume something sweet understand that it is going to add on somewhere.</p>
<p>4. Fix times to have meals and stick to it. Try to have food at fixed times of the day. You can stretch these times by half an hour, but anything more than that is going to affect your eating pattern, the result will either be a loss of appetite or that famished feeling which will make you stuff yourself with more than what is required the next time you eat.</p>
<p>5. Eat only when you are hungry. Some of us have the tendency to eat whenever we see food. We use parties as an excuse to stuff our selves. Understand that the effect of a whole week of dieting can be wasted by just one day’s party food. Whenever you are offered something to eat do not decline it completely but just break of a nibble so that you appear to mind your manners and at the same time can watch your diet.</p>
<p>6. Quit snacking in between meals. Do not fall for snacks in between meals. This is especially true for those who have to travel a lot. They feel that the only time they can get a bite to eat is snacks and junk food. <p>Everybody wants a weight-loss plan that lets them eat as much as they want while satisfying hunger and reducing calorie intake. The trick is to choose foods with a lower energy density, or fewer calories per gram weight of the food. It could have something to do with your diet plan or workout program, or maybe just the mental aspect of weight loss such as staying motivated and sticking to your diet. It could just be some way of improving your lifestyle so that it becomes more ideal for losing weight.</p>
<p>1. High levels of fruits, vegetables, greens and beans help you lose weight because they are low in calories, high in volume and high in critically important nutrients. On a very practical level they fill you up, without loading you up with fat and calories. And when your stomach is filled up with high volume, low calorie food, there is less room for other stuff. There is also a growing body of evidence that shows that plant-based foods help to control food cravings and overeating. But not just any fruit will do. Canned fruit packed in heavy syrup has twice the energy density of canned fruit packed in light syrup. Dried fruit has four times the energy density of fresh fruit, because almost all the water has been removed. The best choice is fresh, whole fruit for the least amount of calories and the highest amount of fullness and satisfaction. The top fruits for weight loss include grapefruit, melons (watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew), berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries), papaya and peach.</p>
<p>2. High-protein diets have become a popular way to lose weight because emerging research has hinted that protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than either fats or carbohydrates. Diets higher in protein and moderate in carbs, along with a lifestyle of regular exercise are often purported by experts to reduce blood fats and maintain lean tissue while burning fat for fuel without dieters being sidetracked with constant hunger. We need protein at all stages of life, for a variety of bodily functions. It&#8217;s the major component of all cells, including muscle and bone. It&#8217;s needed for growth, development, and immunity to fight off infections and protect the body. To get the potential weight loss benefit, experts advise aiming for around 120 grams of protein a day. If you want to increase your protein intake, do it slowly over the course of a week.</p>
<p>3. You know all of that really tasty junk food that is high in saturated fat and useless calories that serves no positive purpose other than being yummy? Good. Then you also probably know you shouldn&#8217;t be eating any of it. One way to stop eating junk food is to stop putting yourself in a position to eat junk food. By having these types of foods in your house you are obviously going to be much more likely to eat it than if they weren&#8217;t there. This is one of the best natural weight loss.</p>
<p>4. Need to whip up a tasty dinner party dish? Try making a fruity dessert. Slice strawberries and mix with raspberries and blueberries. Top with a quick syrup: Simmer 1/2 cup water with 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon amaretto until reduced to 1/4 cup. <p>&#8220;You must be kidding doc,&#8221; I said. &#8220;I do martial arts and I&#8217;ll show you that it will be back to normal in a few weeks&#8217; time.&#8221; The doctor&#8217;s reply caused my blood pressure to rise and my ego to crumble; &#8220;Sir, martial arts has no fight in this arena. Unless you lose weight, you&#8217;re on pills forever.&#8221;</p>
<p>That was 10 years ago, and I was taking the pill like the doctor said. I joined all weight loss programs that came my way, just to get rid of that pill which is straining my nerves and my pockets as well. Every time I do, my weight drops for a few weeks but invariably returns even if I&#8217;m consistent with my training. I cannot understand why, but my body seems to adapt after a while.</p>
<p>Eventually, I decided to try subliminal programming and acquired one of the best technologies in the market today which enables me to create my own subliminal recordings. My main objective really is to bring my weight, which has caused my hypertension, down. <p>When I was small, I used to be very skinny until I entered college. Because of that my self-confidence was low and I&#8217;m overly self-conscious. Nothing so occupied my mind but my bony figure, and decided I would do my best to become big. Eating became my favorite past time, and for a good reason. In less than a year, I have gained pounds and was so happy with the results. Then I remembered making a promise to myself; &#8220;I will never be small again.&#8221;</p>
<p>That promise was deeply rooted in my subconscious, and it was only that night that I realized it was blocking my progress in any weight loss program I joined. It was a form of self-sabotage I wasn&#8217;t even consciously aware of.</p>

<p>In my study of the human mind, I learned that it is basically divided into two regions; the conscious which is generally dominating during our waking stage, and the subconscious which is largely unexplored and still a mystery to many.</p>
<p>The conscious mind is the critical, analytical and questioning aspect and in control of most of our day-to-day activities, from preparing to go to work up to the time we decide when to go home. The subconscious, which can be compared to the unseen part of an iceberg, directs our automatic and non-voluntary actions like driving the car while listening to the news of the day.</p>
<p>While it appears that the subconscious operates at the background, it greatly influences how a person acts and reacts. It is the part which tells the mind, &#8220;You can never do it any other way except this.&#8221; If we do not understand how this part of the mind works, we will find that our ability to improve is somewhat constrained.</p>
<p>I heard the story of a very fat lady who was unsuccessful in her attempts to trim down. She tried everything to no avail, and finally decided to try hypnosis. In many instances, such as the story stated above, the goals of the unconscious contradict with the goals of the conscious mind. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With the current constant push to reduce the intake of fats in the diet, it is easy to forget that certain fats are essential for health. The essential fatty acids (EFAs) must be supplied from the diet. Other fats, although not essential, are powerful health promoters. Both essential and non essential fats also called lipids are required for the absorption of fat soluble vitamins and related nutrients.</p>
<p>The two families of EFAs are the omega-6 family based upon linoleic acid (LA) and the omega-3 family based upon alpha-linolenic acid (LNA). The essential fats make up significant portions of the nerve tissue of the brain and elsewhere. They are building blocks for the body&#8217;s production of hormones (including the sterol hormones such as testosterone and estrogen) and the production of hormone like signaling compounds (such as prostaglandins). The immune system is regulated by essential fatty acids and compounds made from them.</p>
<p>The Omega-6 Fatty Acids</p>
<p>Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an omega-6 family fatty acid nutrient. Under ideal circumstances, it is made in the body from the conversion of linoleic acid. GLA serves as a precursor to the family of hormone like substances or &#8220;activated fatty acids&#8221; known as the prostaglandin (PG) series called PGE-1. This means the prostaglandin family &#8220;E&#8221; derived from GLA. The PGE-1 family is involved in anti-inflammatory, anti-spasm, anti-infection, and similar actions in the body, including reducing the &#8220;stickiness&#8221; of the blood. PGE-1, in other words, is a family of &#8220;good&#8221; compounds made from omega-6 fatty acids.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, there is also a &#8220;bad&#8221; set of compounds that is made from omega-6 fatty acids, as well. The second family of prostaglandins (PGE-2) made from the omega-6 linoleic acid involves the production of arachidonic acid, a fatty acid already abundant in the American diet. The PGE-2 series activates aspects of the immune and other systems. In excess, it leads to inflammation, menstrual cramps, asthma, heart disease, and many other problems, including obesity. These are all possible results of the chronic activation of what is known as the arachidonic acid cascade, Among its other duties, the PGE-1 family serves to control or to turn off the PGE-2 family.</p>
<p>Most of us need a lot more of PGE-1 and a lot less of PGE-2. However, Syndrome X turns this equation on its head. High levels of insulin strongly increase the production of PGE-2. At the same time, the same factors that produce Syndrome X act against the production of PGE-1.</p>
<p>Many factors can prevent the conversion of linoleic acid to GLA and from there to PGE-1. These factors include deficiencies of the vitamins B3, B6, C and biotin, as well as inadequate intakes of the minerals magnesium and zinc. Too much alcohol, too much saturated fat, the consumption of hydrogenated (trans-fatty acids) and heat-damaged fats, and many other dietary factors are involved. Moreover, many people (especially those who tend to put on weight) have difficulty in transforming linoleic acid into GLA simply because they naturally produce relatively little of the enzyme needed for this transformation.</p>
