If you’re buying a Proform home treadmill, here are 3 things you need to know to get the most for your money:

Tip #1 – Proform has been around for years and introduces new models every year. This means that while you’re shopping around you’ll probably find several different models of various ages. I’ve seen models from 4 years ago still being sold at a local department store.

The one thing you may not realize is that Proform’s new treadmills tend to improve every year. Competition being what it is, manufacturers are working hard to make a better product each year with stronger motors, belts, decks and even more toys like iPod docks and built in console speakers.

The newer models also usually come with longer warranties than the older models. The warranties on these treadmills 5-10 years ago were terrible (think 90 days). But now you can find treadmills with 20 year motor warranties or even lifetime motor warranties, which is excellent and helps protect your investment.

Bottom Line? If you’re buying a Proform home treadmill, you may want to consider a new model first in order to get the most for your money. Plus you’ll get the latest treadmill technology and toys on your machine.

Tip #2 – Another thing people don’t understand is that Proform is owned by ICON Health and Fitness – the largest manufacturer exercise equipment in the world. They also manufacture treadmill brands like Reebok, Epic, Image and Weslo.

So it’s not unusual to see a Proform treadmill looking very much like a Reebok or an Epic. There are usually little differences. But if you do your research you may find that you can find a Proform that’s very similar to a higher priced Epic model – so you can save money there.

Tip #3 – Here’s another thing many people don’t know. If you’re thinking about buying a used Proform, no manufacturer – including Proform – will honor the warranty for a second buyer.

So even if the seller says to you “Don’t worry, it’s still under warranty”, you have to remember that the warranty will not cover you. So if you get the treadmill home and it breaks – you’re stuck paying a pricey repair bill – or you can always buy a new treadmill.

So here’s the bottom line. Proform does have a few great value treadmills in their lineup – but they also have some models that don’t give you as much for your money as others. Take your time to do your research and you’ll find a better Proform treadmill for your money.
